When I was playing baseball at the University of Utah, many times after practice my teammates would set their gloves out in the outfield, stand a distance, and try and “hit” them with their fly. I didn’t totally understand what they were doing, nor why they seemed to be so into it? Although I’d grown up doing some fishing (my father was a tuna fisherman) it was always from a boat or the deep sea kind. When I met my now wife, I was introduced to her step father who was born and raised here in Idaho. He introduced me to the world of fly fishing and as a wedding gift, gave me a fly rod…and I’ve never looked back. I love it. Though I have so much more to learn, it truly has become my favorite activity of the last 10 years and one I hope to do for a long time!
